Topshop on heavy US expansion
Topshop has signed a 40,000 sq foot flagship store on Fifth Avenue, which will be the fashion retailer’s second largest flagship store in the world, following its UK flagship on London’s Oxford Street (90,000 sq foot). The new Manhattan store will be located adjacent to the Rockefeller Center. It will be open in fall 2014 and create several hundred new jobs both within retail and new US Head Office operations based in New York. The Manhattan flagship will carry the full Topshop and Topman collections including collaborations, exclusives, and full Personal Shopping services.
Moreover, Topshop and Topman will expand further within the USA with four further store openings across the country – joint Topshop and Topman stores in Fashion Valley San Diego (17,500 sq foot), and a stand-alone Topshop in Springfield Town Center Washington (5,000 sq foot) in the fall of 2014 and joint Topshop and Topman stores in Galleria Mall Houston (16,500 sq foot) and Lennox Square Mall Atlanta (15,500 sq foot) for spring 2015. Fall 2013 saw a significant development of the partnership between Topshop/Topman with the department store Nordstrom, involving several key openings. Topshop and Topman now has a presence in 42 and 49 Nordstrom stores, respectively, plus a presence on the Nordstrom.com website, and discussions continue to build this partnership, with the plan being to extend Topshop to 52 stores, and Topman to 55 this spring.
Sir Philip Green, CEO of the Arcadia Group (Topshop, BHS, Dorothy Perkins etc.) said: “Following the investment of Leonard Green & Partners in December 2012, it was always our plan to significantly expand TOPSHOP and TOPMAN in the USA, and their input and expertise within this market has been very welcome.”
Further international franchise expansion of the Topshop and Topman brands continues apace – with 80 openings in 13 countries in 2013 including Australia, Brazil and Hong Kong, whilst over the next 6 months a further 15 stores in 8 countries are planned including Russia, Turkey and Vietnam.
