SAMANTHA PLEET SHOWCASES FOOTWEAR COLLECTION FOR WOLVERINEOn the evening of Tuesday, March 6 Brooklyn-based designer Samantha Pleet showcased her fall/winter 2012/13 footwear collection for American heritage boot brand Wolverine in an exclusive installation at the 14 oz. store in Berlin’s Mitte district.
The Wolverine 1000 Mile by Samantha Pleet collection consists of five women’s boot and shoe styles in different color variations. It is the first purely female collection in the history of the label, which was founded in 1883 by the German Gustav Adolf Krause in Rockford, Michigan. The brand, which was quickly appreciated amongst workmen for its robust, long-living boots, still earns a great share of its profits by manufacturing high quality working shoes.

The collaboration came into existence when Wolverine asked Pleet, who started her own clothing line in 2006, for a meeting. "I brought some sketches and collages to our first meeting, showing pictures of personalities and costumes from former times. I was inspired by historic travelers and adventurers with great style such as Evelyn Nesbit or Karen Blixen. The Wolverine people were enthusiastic from the very beginning and since then, the collaboration has been very smooth and fruitful. I think our two brands fit together very well, as we both focus on high class materials and quality, timeless products which are mostly made in the US," explained 29-year-old Pleet, whose grandfather was a shoe maker. The collaboration is meant to be ongoing and Pleet is already working on new designs for spring/summer 2013.
Setting of the collection launch at 14 oz.
The Wolverine/Pleet team showcased the collection at the Capsule trade show in Paris and took part at a London launch event, with Berlin marking another European stopover. They were pleased with the opportunity to make use of 14 oz.'s second floor facilities, normally used for private shopping arrangements. For the launch, both Samantha Pleet’s Fall/Winter 2012/13 clothing collection and her footwear line for Wolverine were displayed in a setting which resembled a romantic girl’s bedroom. Shop owner Karl-Heinz Müller was the first German retailer to stock Wolverine when it was introduced to Germany.
