German retailers expect increasing buying pricesAccording to a survey made by The Foreign Trade Association of the German Retail Trade (AVE), 86 percent of German retailers are expecting buying prices for imported goods to increase this year. This is due to the increasing costs of energy, raw materials, labour costs, and shipping and transportation costs. In the future supplier countries such as India, Bangladesh and Birma/Myanmar will assume a greater importance.
Almost half of those surveyed expect a relative decreasing in importance of China and Vietnam as suppliers. Despite these suppositions, 86 percent of German retailers are likely to import more goods than in the previous year.
