EcoTopTen Updates its List of Eco-Fashion Brands
The consumer platform EcoTopTen has updated its list of sustainable and environmentally-friendly fashion brands and installed an overview of the most common sustainability and eco labels.
In contrast to the food industry, attributes such as “biological”, “eco” or “organic” are not protected expressions in the textile industry. The updated labels will allow consumers to make informed decisions about their purchases by telling them if the garment has been ecologically produced, is contaminant free and has been produced under humane conditions.
“We compare a total of 14 different eco labels with the complete textile chain; that is from growing cotton and processing the fibres, up to the selling of the product,” explained Dr. Jenny Teufel, scientist at the Eco Institute and expert for the labelling of sustainable textiles.
Furthermore, EcoTopTen has updated its list of sustainably produced garment suppliers, including fashion brands such as Armedangels, Knowledge Cotton Apparel, Kuyichior and Nudie Jeans. For the first time, EcoTopTen also lists the providers of sustainably produced outdoor-clothing.
EcoTopTen is a campaign for sustainable consumption and product innovations in the mass market, initiated by the “Öko-Institut” in Freiburg, Germany. In constant intervals, scientists recommend a selection of high-quality, so-called EcoTopTen products which have a suitable price performance ratio and are top products from an environmental viewpoint.
