Soulland Meets Babar
Copenhagen-based menswear brand Soulland has created a capsule collection, which employs imagery from the children’s story “L’Histoire de Babar”, written by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931. Soulland is the first fashion label licensed to use the original artwork of the elephant King Babar, and his friends, drawn by the author himself.
Key pieces of the collection are short and long-sleeved classic button-down oxford shirts, and a pair of shorts, all featuring an iconic Babar all-over print. The line is complemented by t-shirts and a sweatshirt.
Silas Adler, Head Designer and founder of Soulland: “I have been a fan of the Babar universe since I was four years old, so it was a great honor being able to work on this collaboration. I was particularly inspired by a story from the first book, where Babar goes to the tailor to get his first suit; a bright green suit. I like the link and the relevance to menswear in that story. All drawings are originals drawn by the author and ‘father’ of the Babar universe, Jean de Brunhoff.”
The collection will launch in the Paris-based concept store Colette on April 3rd. Starting from the middle of April, the styles will be available in selected stores worldwide including Opening Ceremony in New York and Los Angeles, Goodhood in London, Hunting & Collecting in Brussels or Soto and Voo Store in Berlin.
