03 Feb. 2012
SNIPE PRODUCES FIRST BIODEGRADABLE SHOEGerman footwear brand Snipe, owned by Gabor Footwear GmbH, has developed the first traditionally made biodegradable leather shoe. The idea behind the design was to develop a shoe that would be more than just waste at the end of its life cycle and to raise consumer awareness regarding sustainable fashion. The project was undertaken in cooperation with the University of Vigo, Spain and coordinated by brand founder Ernesto Segarra.
The shoe has a biodegradable outer sole, cushioning, lining, laces, label and cotton lining cotton and is available for men and women. Each model will only be available in an assortment of 6 pairs with minimum orders per retailer consisting of one womens and one mens package. The launch of the first biodegradable shoe with a special logo and packaging will be September 5, 2012.
