SHOW PREVIEW: MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK, BERLIN

After a one-year search, IMG has found a new location for their show tent and has moved back to the initial location of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) at the Brandenburger Tor/Strasse des 17. Juni. Already in the summer of 2007, the debut of Berlin Fashion Week took place here. After the premiere edition, the shows moved to the Postbahnhof in January of 2008, before they later settled at the central Bebelplatz in Mitte. With the new and larger location, during July 6-9, for the first time, MBFW will host more than 50 on- and offsite shows and presentations. In addition to the already confirmed designers and brands, names like Diesel, Kostas Murkudis, Stefanel, or Ready for Nature have confirmed their participation.

In addition to the catwalk in the fashion tent, for the first time there will be the ‘Studio’, a showroom for designers and brands where they can individually present their collections alternatively to a classical catwalk show or can use the location for special installations.

The full show calendar includes designers and brands, such as A.F. Vandevorst, Escada Sport, Hugo, Iris van Herpen, Michael Sontag, Laurèl, Kilian Kerner, Marcel Ostertag, Frida Weyer, Lala Berlin, Perret Schaad, Rena Lange, Strenesse Blue, Michalsky, Schumacher, Vladimir Karaleev and Wood Wood. In line with his Style Nite fashion show, designer Michael Michalsky will present his first beachwear collection ‘Lascana by Michalsky’.

Moreover, for the fouth time, but for the first time under the patronage and the presence of New York-based designer, Marc Jacobs, the P&C Designer for Tomorrow Award will be handed out on Wednesday, July 7, at 4.30pm.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week serves as a sponsoring partner of the initiative, ‘Tokyo goes Berlin’ in order to support Japanese designers after the catastrophe end of March. On July 9, from 2-4pm, it provides selected Japanese designers with a slot in the Studio at the Brandenburger Tor for a group installation.
