K KARL LAGERFELD COLLABORATES WITH TOKIDOKIK Karl Lagerfeld has announced a collaboration with the Japanese-inspired brand Tokidoki on an exclusive limited edition miniature Karl Lagerfeld character.
Designer Karl Lagerfeld, who is known to always have his fingers on the pulse of modern pop culture and likes Japanese-inspired art, says: “I am very flattered that I became a Tokidoki. I always loved them and I am very happy to be one of them!”
K Karl Lagerfeld, the designer’s namesake denim-based collection, which launched in fall 2007, combines premium denim with sleek and sophisticated silhouettes. The men's and women’s collection offers key classics and must-have inspirational pieces.
Tokidoki, which means “sometimes” in Japanese, was borne from the imagination of Italian artist Simone Legno in 2005. The brand produces vinyl toys, apparel, footwear and accessories including purses and jewelry.
Together K Karl Lagerfeld and Tokidoki combine the iconic and edgy look of Karl Lagerfeld with the playful, magical and sometimes provocative style created by Legno into Mini Karl.
Simone says: “I truly cherish the opportunity to work with Karl Lagerfeld, fashion’s living legend and preeminent style icon. In all levels of fashion ranging from couture down to the street, his design and influence is unsurpassed — and to be able to interpret and incorporate him into my work has been a once in a lifetime experience.”
Mini Karl, completely dressed in K Karl Lagerfeld, stands 25 cm tall, is finished in black, white, chrome, and is embellished with rhinestones, reflecting the designer’s inimitable look.
A limited edition of 1,000 Mini Karls will be available to purchase worldwide through select K Karl Lagerfeld retailers and Tokidoki flagship stores in New York, Milan and Los Angeles. Each figure will include an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.
Mini Karl will launch exclusively at Colette in October, and will hit stores worldwide pre-Christmas. Mini Karl retails for €129. For S/S 10, Mini Karl will also appear on a small selection of K Karl Lagerfeld graphic tees.
