GIORGIO ARMANI DRESSES ITALIAN NATIONAL TEAM
While the Olympic torch was being lit in Athens on May 10, in Milan Giorgio Armani presented his official sportswear and everyday range EA7 Emporio Armani for the Italian National Olympic Team uniforms for London's 2012 Olympic games (SI reported on the cooperation earlier).
The kit each athlete receives will include a complete wardrobe of modular outfits, a carry-on suitcase and larger piece of luggage. The official tracksuit, featuring an asymmetrical closure, will also be inside as well as a nylon jacket, Bermuda shorts, trousers, T-shirts and running and training shoes built using innovative C-Cube (Carbon Cushion Control) technology, which ensures maximum comfort and is responsive to all conditions.
The selection is made up of 50 items and is an elegant combination of white and midnight blue. Giorgio Armani selected this specific blue, which was used through the 70's to create a sense of continuity with tradition and to convey a feeling of classic elegance. Patriotic pride is the key to this project and it is rendered discreetly yet powerfully. The original words to Mameli’s Hymn, the Italian national anthem, are reproduced in gold cursive lettering on the insides of jackets and on the left-hand side of sweatshirts, close to the heart. The first words of the anthem can be seen on a blue band under the collar of polo shirts and become visible when the collar is turned up. The kit also includes a white polo shirt with a red left sleeve and a green right sleeve.
All the clothing and most of the accessories have the word “Italia” on them, enriched with a stylised rendering of Rome’s Olympic stadium as well as the CONI and EA7 logos. To further enhance the profound values of competitive sports, the lettering and logos are in gold and silver while on white items the CONI logo is colored. Fabrics are practical and comfortable: stretch cotton, polyester and nylon. The official tracksuit is made from a mixed fabric that gives it a rich, full-bodied, techno texture.
The entire kit with its dynamic and clean silhouette speaks of the meticulousness and dignity inherent to the Armani style. Replicas of the uniforms will be sold worldwide throughout Armani stores and selected boutiques.
