GDS: SUCCESSFUL START, COLORFUL COLLECTIONS

Shoe Galore! - Gallery
GDS, the international event for shoes & accessories, had a successful start in Düsseldorf yesterday and will run through March 16. About 860 exhibitors from 44 countries are presenting their fall/winter 2012-13 collections. Increased sales in March and colorful shop windows have been an inspiration to the atmosphere as the fair kick off.

In general, spirits have been high for exhibitors and visitors, although the frequency is reported as weaker than last year. This is due in part to a lull in winter's business, resulting in many shops still carrying tons of warm and functional high boots. Another reason was the late starting point of GDS, which takes place after Milan's Micam.

Vagabond: \" Germany is one of our best markets\"

Fashion and color are the main trends of the fair so far with hidden and sneaker wedges making quite the stand. “Color is our biggest trend,” explained Rainer Fokkens from Xyxyx. Retailers are looking for new colors like cognac, dark blue, violet, green, dark red and taupe. Michael Gerlach of Airstep reported, “Wedge sneakers in blue, green, black and red are our best-selling items. Retailers are looking for different styles.”

Wedges and ankle boots with plateau soles, outdoor boots with mountain elements, colorful laces and suedes, desert boots and boots with moccasin details are also on high demand with Western boots experiencing a comeback. Brands offering fashion shoes are filled with positive energy; Claus Tycesen from Vagabond commented, “We are happy with our new booth. Our customers are only looking for fashion and Germany is one of our best markets,” and Buffalo’s booth was also already quite crowded by morning. Hidden wedges, western boots with flower embroideries and glamour high heels are their top sellers at the moment.

The urban authentic hall saw some newcomers like Levi’s and Wrangler shoes but this time Replay, Sixty and Diesel were absent from Hall 3.
