André & Converse: PURPLE

Converse Launches André for Converse CollectionLast week sportswear label Converse released their new André for Converse Collection in partnership with the French artist and hotelier André Saraiva. The collection consists of the Love and the Purple sneakers, which are both based on the Chuck Taylor All Star and are part of the Converse First String. While Love refers to the Parisian Hôtel Amour that Saraiva founded, Purple is a nod to the artist's friend and Purple Magazine editor-in-chief Olivier Zahm.
Saraiva shot to fame in the 1990's because of his distinctive graffiti style and his signature character, Monsieur A. Explaining the background of the collection, he said, "I decided to go for the Chuck Taylor All Star because I've been wearing the shoe since I was 13 years old." The artist took the classic silhouette and added his own details; the upper material of the shoe is made from the classic natural Canvas while the collar lining features soft leather. He also replaced the original All Star logo with his own Monsieur A signature on the tongue and the typical André emblem on the ankle. Saraiva lastly equipped the Love model with a pink sole and shoelaces and the Purple with a purple sole and matching laces.
The limited edition shoes are available at select First String retailers for €110 and in Germany exclusively at Berlin's Soto.
