COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK WIDENS OFFERINGS

Denmark’s capital of Copenhagen will be transformed into a major fashion center this week, as it hosts Copenhagen Fashion Week, Aug. 5-9.

More than 40 shows mainly focusing on Danish brands such as Wood Wood, Mads Norgaard, By Malene Birger, Bruuns Bazaar, Designers Remix and Henrik Vibskov have been scheduled, although the lineup will be mixed with selected international collections including Sweden’s Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Germany’s Hugo Boss Orange and Finland’s Ivana Helsinki.

Several trade show concepts will also run concurrently with the catwalk presentations. The new exhibition space of Terminal 2, for one, launched in February this year and located in a 9,000-sq-meter former maintenance building for Denmark’s railway, will host brands from the denim and streetwear segment, while CPH Vision will provide a more exclusive platform for contemporary, feminine fashion brands in its familiar historical Oksnehallen in the heart of the city.

This season, Terminal 2 will not only exhibit urban, denim and streetwear brands, but also contemporary urban fashion brands. The remodeling affects brands such as Samsøe & Samsøe, Nümph and Fred Perry, which will move from CPH Vision to Terminal 2. The aim, with this more contemporary approach, is to create a viable mix of inexpensive and luxurious brands.

“Looking at the consumer of today, we no longer see fashion-conscious people dressed head-to-toe in only designer labels. What we do see is a mix of brands as well as price range. We no longer see the division of high-end brands on one side and urban brands in the other, simply because this doesn't reflect what the consumer is wearing today. Nor does it reflect or meet the needs of today's buyer,” said Jan Busch Carlsen, Founder & Creative Director, Copenhagen Fashion Fairs.

Meanwhile, the Designers Nest Show & Award, promoting Scandinavians design talents selected from Scandinavian fashion schools and their graduating collections, will return for its 10th instalment on August 8.

Running parallel to the show, the Gallery Fair at the Forum Copenhagen will present a well selected portfolio of more than 200 established and up-and coming Scandinavian designers and brands such as Acne, Tiger of Sweden, Whyred, Sabrina Dehoff, Minimarket and Carin Wester.

Last but not least, CIFF Copenhagen International Fashion Fair will run at the Bella Center. As part of CIFF, the kids area CIFFKIDS will run as well. The four trends that can be seen at the CIFFKIDS Trendshow this August include City, Color Games, White Stories and Green Mapping. As for the grown-up segment, the French trend agency NellyRodi has been working on key trends for spring/summer 2010. Those trends consist of Light Tech, Ode to Nature, Southern Folk and Popular Appeal.
