COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK RAISES ITS PROFILE

The winter edition of Copenhagen Fashion Week, organized by the Danish Fashion Institute and local fairs, ended on Monday, with CIFF including CIFF Kids, Gallery, CPH Vision, Terminal 2 and several shows successfully transforming Denmark’s capital into a major fashion center.

Once again Copenhagen attracted tens of thousands of trade visitors. Compared to the last summer edition, the week saw a rise in visitors. Gallery counted 12,364 visitors, or a 2% increase from its February 2009 show and a 6% increase since August 2009. There were also 39% more international visitors this time. “Gallery's increase this time is only made by the exhibitors. It was the strongest group of design-driven brands ever seen at Gallery, so we will focus even more on attracting new and interesting designers for next time in August,” said Gallery CEO Christian Gregersen. Meanwhile, CPH Vision announced it had 12,404 visitors where Terminal-2 had 12,966 visitors. CIFF announced it had 27,650 visitors, 7 percent fewer than February 2009.

"There was an overall positive response from both exhibitors and visitors and a general sense of forward-thinking and brighter expectations for the market. All concerns about the crisis were left outside the fair buildings, as the focus was on doing business and looking forward to future prospects. Ever since the start, we've always been known for our strong business platform and this time was no exception, with an exceptional amount of signed orders and satisfying results obtained by exhibitors. That's what has made us come so far and what will continue to make us stronger," said Peter Fenger Selchau, CEO Copenhagen Fashion Fairs.

Overall, attendance was satisfying as was the quality of contacts. Still, some exhibitors wished for a larger international audience. The big draw in Berlin in January might be one reason for fewer attendees.

That said, the fairs upped their services for visitors. For the first time Terminal-2 presented its own trend show, held in the venue of the locomotive maintenance building. In addition, the first edition of The Boiler was launched in Terminal-2, adding an additional 1,000 sq. meters to the exhibition area at the terminal and offering a selection of streetwear and denim heritage brands. CIFF and CIFF Kids added a range of new experiences, including a vivid ice universe, new upcoming designers, new restaurants, trend zones, and shows every day.

“Our goal is for the fair to be a total experience for exhibitors and buyers. And we have had a really good start to the project. And we are most certainly not stopping here. We will continue to concept de-velop CIFF and we are already looking forward to the fair in August,” says Bo-lette Hvalsøe Olesen, the person responsible for CIFF in Bella Center.
About 10 catwalk shows from Norway, Germany, Finland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark were hosted by Gallery at the Forum this season. Scheduled with about 36 shows, Copenhagen Fashion Week mainly focused on Danish brands such as Barbara i Gongini, Wood Wood, By Malene Birger, Noir, Noblesse, Stine Goya, Visbol de Arce, Bruuns Bazaar, Designers Remix and Henrik Vibskov. The lineup was also mixed up with selected international collections including Germany’s Patrick Mohr, Finnish brand Ivana Helsinki, Tina H and Fin from Norway, and Sweden’s Minimarket. Trine Wackerhaus, rewarded with the newly launched Max Factor New Talent Award for best newcomer designer, put on a sponsored show at City Hall, presenting a collection marked by an understated feminine look with twisted details and a well chosen color palette.

Copenhagen’s fairs including CPH, Terminal-2, CIFF with CIFF Kids and Gallery have announced the dates of Aug. 12-15 for their summer edition. At that time, the so-called travel site MyFashionWeek in collaboration with the fairs in Copenhagen will be expanded to offer train tickets, guides and shuttles to accommodate buyers and the press.
