BERLINORDIK KICKS OFF AT COPENHAGEN DESIGN WEEKThree weeks after Copenhagen Fashion Week, Denmark’s capital will once again be transformed into an international design hub. From Aug. 27 through Sept. 6, the city will play host to the first edition of Copenhagen Design Week, providing a rich mix of design-related tradeshows, exhibitions, seminars and networking. But even if fashion isn’t the main attraction here, there are still a few stylish highlights such as Berlin’s export project, Next Vision: Bright Green Fashion, to up the ante.
Next Vision: Bright Green Fashion is a collaborative project organized by Creative Forum Copenhagen and the Berlin-based designer network of Create Berlin, initiated by Inpolis GmbH Berlin. Bright Green Fashion is the debut event of the BerlINordik Road Show, which will showcase design from Berlin in various Nordic capital cities such as Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm in coming years. The highlight of this year’s premier event will take place on August 28 during Copenhagen Design Week, when Klaus Wowereit, Governing Mayor of Berlin, and Ritt Bjerregaard, Mayor of Copenhagen, will present a joint fashion designers show at City Hall.
Focusing on different creative aspects each year, the show will spotlight eco fashion, sustainability and social responsibility this year. “We’re using this project to bring eco-friendly fashion designers from Berlin and Denmark together to exchange experiences. Fashion – and sustainable fashion, in particular – is a global topic. That’s what has prompted us to initiate this international get-together and to create a platform for designers to exchange experiences and discuss strategies and marketing with business experts and representatives drawn from various institutions,” said Ares Kalandides, a member of the Create Berlin board and managing director of InPolis GmbH.
Ten fashion designers in all will present their vision of sustainability in fashion. Among the participating labels from Denmark are Trine Wackerhausen-Christensen, Jean-Philip Dyremose, Vibe Harslof or Barbara í Gongini. Additional designers from Berlin include Julia Knüpfer, Tarané Hook and Esther Perbandt.
