ALEXANDRA KIESEL WINS P&C DESIGNER FOR TOMORROW AWARDAlexandra Kiesel has won the Designer for Tomorrow by Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf award. Under the patronage of the New Yorker designer and Louis Vuitton's fashion director Marc Jacobs, the jury has selected the 29-year-old designer among five young finalists. “I want to democratize fashion and therefore give everyone the opportunity to find their own style. A trend should no longer define how you are perceived, instead, you should define the trend yourself,” Kiesel describes her idea of fashion. For her womenswear collection, she uses colorblocking – preferring clear, bright colors as green, red, yellow and blue – and geometric constructions.
Since 2009, Düsseldorf-based retailer Peek & Cloppenburg, who runs stores in 15 European countries, hands out the fashion talent award to aspiring young designers. Kiesel who visited the School of Art and Design Berlin Weissensee will take part in an advanced training program and has the chance to show her own designs at a fashion show in January of 2012.
