ADIDAS SVLR: SMART & SLEEKFor fall/winter 2012-13, Adidas SVLR has presented its collection that found inspiration from the classic silent film Metropolis, crafting a bold, futuristic collection of contemporary sportswear essentials. Under the creative direction of Dirk Schönberger, Adidas SLVR continues to evolve its high-fashion perspective, combining precision tailoring with breakthrough fabrics and a sport attitude. This translates as chic trenches with leather insets and voluminous marble-print ponchos for women and slick bombers and quilted motorcycle jackets for men, among many other directional pieces.
Adidas SLVR is building a legacy of sport luxury, which this season is expressed, for women, in sumptuous fabrics, body-hugging silhouettes, and highly refined outerwear. Tailoring is one focus of the collection, which includes slim black collarless jackets, classic black shift dresses, adventurous cropped pants with folded “origami” pockets, and sleek black coats topped with built-in leather motorcycle vests. At the same time, dramatic volume makes a statement in the form of wrapped poncho coats, cropped satin jackets, and billowing cut-away blouses. Recalling the futuristic theme, several knit pieces, like a slinky striped sweater, are comprised of metallic gold and gunmetal thread.
For men, tailoring takes center stage. Wool-and-satin suit jackets provide chic day-to-evening options, while bomber jackets with elastic “sleeves” bring a dose of fashion and edge. Pants boast dramatic flairs like triple-split knees or interior tuxedo stripes, while shirting is extra-fitted for a modern look. The collection revolves around key pieces of outerwear, from trim trench coats and studded letterman jackets to tailored down puffers and elegant blazers with built-in zip sweaters (a design motif that carries throughout the range).
The season’s footwear reflects the collection’s refined mood. For women, this means low-heeled neoprene booties, leather “puffer” boots, and classic oxfords, as well as fresh takes on classic Adidas SLVR trainers. For men, leather-and-canvas desert boots define elegance, while dove gray leather sneakers and slouchy black leather boots appear built to beat the autumn chill.
“SLVR relies on the technical excellence of adidas while pushing the limits of sportswear,” explains Adidas SLVR creative director Dirk Schönberger. “It´s about staying open to new concepts and ideas. The fusion of tailoring and sportswear creates something that I believe is very relevant to our culture right now.“
