Patagonia to re-open its Chamonix store
18 Jan. 2013
Patagonia refits its store in ChamonixPatagonia Inc, the Californian outdoor gear and apparel company, has announced the re-opening of its very first European store in Chamonix. Opened in 1987, by Yvon and Malinda Chouinard, it was the first Patagonia store to open in Europe and the first of all the outdoor brand stores that opened in Chamonix.
With 200 square metres of retail space, the store will be a showcase for the entire Patagonia offering focusing on core technical alpine and ski/snowboard products and including lifestyle products, kids, packs and footwear collections.
Patagonia store in Chamonix: ground floor
The first floor will be entirely dedicated to women; the ground floor will feature all men’s products and the new retail space created in the basement has kids and footwear collections and a wall full of packs. The outdoor courtyard will be used to welcome Patagonia’s community during summer. The store will be the venue for a host of events taking place throughout the year. In line with Patagonia’s environmental consciousness, local environmental groups will also be encouraged to use the space.
The new merchandising gives more space to the products. Light has been emphasized and the materials used were all sourced locally. The cashier is decorated by Andy Parkin, climber and local artist, fixtures are made of hevea wood by a local partner and all furniture is second hand.
