Zalando Opens Pop-Up Store In MilanWithin Milan Design Week (9-14 April) Zalando, the German fashion e-commerce specialist, has opened its first temporary store in Milan, in Via Vigevano 1, near Zona Tortona. “We inaugurated this pop-up shop because we wanted to familiarize Italian consumers with e-commerce and show them our products directly,” commented Felix Kreyer, Head of Southern Europe, and Giuseppe Tamola, Country Manager Italy, in reference to the fact that Italian consumers are strongly brand driven and prefer to shop in brick-and-mortar stores.
The company, which was founded in 2008, reached net sales of €1.15 billion in 2012 (+125% on 2011) - read more here on sportswearnet.com. Half of the company's revenues come from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Zalando currently sell to a total of 14 markets where they distribute approximately 1,500 brands, covering menswear, womenswear and children’s apparel, footwear and accessories, as well as beauty products in selected countries only, and recently launched, home decors.
“Our aim is to become the number one e-commerce platform in Europe,” they commented, explaining that Italy has the highest potential for growth. In order to achieve this, Zalando may create an additional pop-up store in Rome, the Italian city where they perform the best, registering slightly higher sales than in Milan.
