ZALANDO EXPANDS FUTURE ERFURT WAREHOUSEOnline fashion retailer Zalando has announced that it will expand its future ultra-modern logistics center in Erfurt, Germany by adding two halls. The statement was put forth by the Thuringia Minister of Economy Matthias Machnig, CEO of MyBrands Zalando eLogistics David Schroeder, future site director Daniel Behlert and Erfurt’s mayor Andreas Bausewein.
"The quick decision to extend the facility strengthens Thuringia as a modern and innovative business location," said Machnig. The total investment for the expansion will be around €70 million and if operations go well, 2,000 additional jobs can potentially be created in the region. "The logistics industry is increasingly becoming a driving force for the economy in Thuringia," added Machnig. The recent development is strongly connected with the spring season’s positive signals and will increase the number of the site’s employees in the long term. Schroeder confirmed, "Zalando expects further growth in Germany and in international markets.” Besides the managing position, further key roles have already been filled and in the coming weeks, the first wave of recruiting warehouse staff will start. Applications are still being accepted by the Erfurt job center.
Work on the hall that is currently under construction began in October 2011 and will be completed this year; the space will cover 78,000 sqm while the two new halls will be 48,000 sqm. Their construction is planned for summer 2012 and expected to be finished in summer 2013.
