YAMAMOTO, FERRAGAMO LAUNCH NEW SHOE COLLECTION

He’s already partnered with Adidas, Madarina Duck, Dr. Martens and high-end jeweler Mikimoto. Now Yohji Yamamoto is co-branding with another name: Florence-based Italian footwear and fashion brand Salvatore Ferragamo.

The two companies are releasing a limited edition collection of eight women’s shoes called Yohji Yamamoto for Salvatore Ferragamo for the F/W 2009-10 season. The shoes, which recently were unveiled at Yamamoto’s show during Paris Fashion Week, will be sold at Yohji Yamamoto and select Ferragamo boutiques worldwide starting in July. They will retail between $470 and $1,050.

Yamamoto used the iconic Ferragamo “Vara” pump model as the inspiration for a lace-up and sneaker in the new capsule collection.

“The partnership with Yohji Yamamoto has been a great source of creative inspiration for us,” said James Ferragamo, director of the brand’s women’s leather goods department, in a written statement. “We are extremely proud to be sharing our technical and design background with an artist who has innovated the aesthetic canons of fashion today. When Yohji Yamamoto visited our company, he was struck by the complexity of the craftsmanship — with up to 150 individual steps — that goes into the making of a Ferragamo shoe. He has chosen our expertise for this project and he works in direct contact with our designer and product design department. By working as a team, we have been able to both express and respect the personalities of the two brands.”
