VF Corporation reports progress in Bangladesh worker safety

The apparel and footwear group VF Corporation announces progress regarding the improvement of the safety and working conditions at its Bangladesh contract suppliers’ manufacturing sites, following the publication of the first Annual Report of The Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety.

As a member of the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety and through its independent actions, VF has pledged to spend at least $17 million in the near-term to improve working conditions in Bangladesh.
During the past 13 months, accomplishments of VF in collaboration with the alliance included factory inspections by seven professional local companies to conduct independent inspections and training more than one million workers and managers in basic fire safety. Moreover, it includes financial support in form of short- to medium-term loan guarantees through the International Finance Corporation and formalized direct loans to factories to undertake remediation. Also worker empowerment is a subject of the safety accomplishments: VF established for example an alliance worker helpline piloted in 50 factories and created a board committee for labor issues comprised of seven trade union leaders.

VF Corporation is a global leader in apparel and footwear with more than 30 brands, including The North Face, Vans, Wrangler, Timberland and Lee. Furthermore brands like 7 For All Mankind, Bulwark, Eagle Creek, Eastpak, Kipling and Napapijri are part of the group.
