SIXTY GROUP MOURNS WICKY HASSAN’S PASSINGUnexpectedly, Wicky Hassan, founder, main shareholder and creative director of Sixty Group, has died at the age of 56. The sad news was announced this morning by the company. For the past four years, Wicky Hassan had been courageously battling cancer.
Ever since the illness was diagnosed, Wicky Hassan had relentlessly worked preparing his company for the future. Specifically, he had dedicated time to creating a design team which could implement and carry on his vision.
Besides ensuring a continuity in style, Wicky Hassan had also taken steps to ensure the future governance of the group entrusting Piero Bongiovanni, current CEO of the company and his management team with the powers necessary to ensure business continuity. The Group is therefore ready to meet the challenges that lay ahead.
“Today we have lost one of the world’s great fashion designers. A man who was able to express great love for design and for his company as well as take a firm stand against all discriminations”, stated Piero Bongiovanni, CEO, Sixty Group. “The employees and management of Sixty Group express their sorrow to family and friends of Wicky, a man who played a key role in establishing Italian fashion in the world”.

Wicky Hassan was born in Tripoli, Libya, in 1955 and then moved to Rome with his family. After studying foreign languages he started painting giving life to a big passion that always influenced his own career. Wicky Hassan started nearing to the fashion world in 1983 when, after and experience as sales assistant decided to open a small store in Via Del Corso in Rome where people could buy trendy labels that could not be found anywhere else. The store called "Energie” immediately became successful and a place where many artists worked for creating most astonishing exhibitions and shop windows.
The success of the Energie store brought him to creating a first small apparel collection in 1989. Though it is when Wicky Hassan meets Renato Rossi, engineer and entrepreneur that their partnership started. Renato Rossi sees Wicky's first sketches and encourages him to continue and develop his collection transforming together Energie into an international brand that will also work together with more brands of the Sixty Group portfolio.
In 2006, Wicky Hassan's creative vision was honored with the prestigious Pitti Immagine Uomo Award.
Sportswear International and the whole jeanswear community will miss a dear friend and an irreplaceable brilliant and creative personality.
