SHOW PREVIEW: BRIGHT, BERLIN

“The move was the right decision. We are happy that we made this step,“ Marco Aslim, chief of Bright, says. Since July of 2010, Berlin is the new home to the streetwear and skateboarding fair. The debut in the former Stasi-building with 12,600 visitors was a great success. From January 20-22, Aslim and his partner Thomas Martini would like to tie in with this success. Almost 300 brands and collections from the areas of streetwear, skateboarding and sneakers have applied for this winter session. Next to old acquaintances and loyal fans, there are also new entries, like Zimtstern, RVCA, or Etnies, that after a break are returning to the show.

The three floors of the history-charged building in Berlin’s Normannenstrasse continue to serve as the setting for Bright. The entire third floor is reserved for art, entertainment, and catering. On the first and second floor, the brands will exhibit their collections on their sometimes very original stands. In order to create more room for this, some refurbishment was done. Especially on the first floor, which was partly very angled, walls were moved, to create a more open atmosphere. On the ground floor, skateboarders can show off their skills. The area was enlarged by two further skate floors which offer a lot of space through mini-ramps and a street area.

Also on board again, will be the Bright Magazine as well as the Bright Bar in Torstrasse, where there will be parties until Saturday. But also marketing-wise, there will be further investments. In order to generate more visitors, Bright is planning a guerrilla event on the second day of Fashion Week. Aslim is convinced: "We have planned a fun event which fits very well into the Bright concept and will get a lot of attention.”

Although the winter edition hasn’t started yet, the next big project for the summer edition is in the pipeline. For the edition taking place July 7-9, Aslim announces a new exhibition space at Bright: “There will be a show, a new fair at Bright.” Details for the new segment or concept he does not want to reveal yet. Just this little: "It’s going to be Bright!"
