Romeo Gigli Returns

Italian designer Romeo Gigli, who retired in 2004 and is known for his ethereal fashion creations, has resurfaced with a new collaboration with Asian luxury giant Joyce. The Joyce by Romeo Gigli collection was first relaunched on the store’s website from July 13-23, before it made its official launch at Joyce boutiques.

Celebrations in Hong Kong and Beijing followed in the coming weeks, in which archival items from Italy were exhibited along with the line. The revelries culminated with a key event in Venice, where Joyce unveiled a prestigious pop-up store on August 30 during the Film Festival, and most recently with a presentation to the audience of the Milan Fashion Global Summit.

The Italian launch took place at Venice’s Calle del Ridotto Joyce boutique, just a few steps away from the Piazza San Marco. The men’s and womenswear collections embody Gigli’s distinctive style with a modern twist and are displayed across the finely furnished 100-sqm store.

Joyce president Andrew Keith said, "We are honoured to have the opportunity to work with Romeo on this special project. Romeo has always been a visionary force of enlightenment for fashion and we are thrilled to be able to share his talent in China and the rest of the world with a new generation of Gigli admirers."

The designer commented, "This is a happy homecoming for me. I’ve worked with Joyce many times over the years. The creation of a universal language of fashion is a shared objective and dear to us both.”

Romeo Gigli was born in 1949 into a family of Italian aristocracy and founded his own company in 1983. His architectural lines gave women's fashion a sense of romanticism and modernity through timeless looks imbued with mysticism and royalty. In 1990 Gigli expanded his offer to fragrances and a second line and in 2004 withdrew from the fashion scene while remaining one of the most influential designers of the 1980s. A pioneer in luxury retail, Joyce was the first to bring international designers to Hong Kong in 1971 and continues to be a supplier of taste and style.

The collection will be available for fall/winter 2013/14.
