Report: L.A. Market

Downtown LA was bustling intently, albeit quietly during the Fall/Holiday 2014 LA Fashion Market held last week. The California Market Center (CMC) happily reports, however, an increase in traffic and new accounts. Dustin Moss, of the new young contemporary line Moss/Jang says, “We just opened the showroom last week and couldn’t be more appreciative of how welcoming the CMC has been and excited about all of the new contacts we have made during the show.”

Transit Footwear and Accessories Show, LA’s longest running dedicated footwear show, along with Select Contemporary Tradeshow, also at the CMC, reported new business as well as visits from key retailers such as Kitson, Just Fab, Four Seasons Hotel, Revolve Clothing, Zappos, Nordstrom and Forever 21, to name but a few. “I couldn’t believe the amount of retailers who came through on one day alone,” says Kylie G, owner of Australian brand Elliott Label. “I made so many new contacts that I ran out of lookbooks and had to have more printed.”

Trade show Designers & Agents, which started life in Los Angeles over 15 years ago, continued its residence at the New Mart. This season, a small, curated selection of jewelers, denim brands and contemporary lines filled the stalls. The usual gourmet snacks, for which D&A is known, were on offer along with cotton from Small Trades, Bolivian knits from Anita Arze, hidden message necklaces by Beth Marcri and real gold nugget creations from Blair Lauren. Robin’s Jeans was there along with a great selection from new showroom Jeans Genius, Inc.

Meanwhile, the New Mart showed market-only exclusives such as the Brandy Garrison and Juliyn Taylor showrooms and new lines to the Mart like Cult of Individuality, Casual Friday, Rubber Ducky and Calvin Klein Jeans.
