Reed Exhibitions Buys Capsule

The Capsule show is no longer independently owned and run. It was announced yesterday that it has joined the stable of shows produced by Reed Exhibitions, a leading global special events organizer, which also owns a majority stake in the Agenda trade show.

The terms of the deal, which was completed in late December, were not disclosed.

Since its founding in New York in 2007, Capsule has been operated by the fashion consultancy BPMW and is known for showcasing trendsetting, progressive and up-and-coming fashion brands. Its three co-founders–Edina Sultanik, Minya Quirk and Deirdre Maloney–will continue to be associated with the show and will work with Reed management and Greg Topalian, senior vice president at Reed, to produce and enhance Capsule’s 12 annual editions in New York, Paris, Berlin and Las Vegas.

“We're really excited about the move and happy to be able to move into what we truly believe will be a fantastic next chapter for our beloved show,” wrote Sultanik in an e-mail announcing the news. “The decision to partner with Reed was easy for us–the time was right because among other things, their support will allow us to spread our wings. We have faced challenges in our six-year history; of being independent, the underdog, a firm of a few people working on a global level...with big ideas and a lot of heart. We've enjoyed every step along the way and we're ready to avail ourselves of all the resources and expertise that the folks at Reed can offer.”

She continued: “Reed will provide Capsule with more outreach to retailers, smoother back-end processes and the ability to secure amazing venues and a wealth of partnerships to benefit the Capsule experience. Most importantly, the folks at Reed believe in Capsule and see its beauty. We hope to maintain the integrity and vibes of our shows, while creating a better experience overall for our exhibitors and visitor.”

“We feel that Capsule is a great cultural fit with our growing fashion portfolio, and a great addition to what we’re doing with the Agenda events,” said Topalian in a statement. He added, “The team’s dedication to the feel, authenticity and respect for the market it serves has been, and will continue to be, the keys to Capsule’s success.”

The next edition of Capsule will take place in Berlin on January 14 and 15.
