QUIKSILVER & ROXY RADAR CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Stian Svendsen (skiing, Norway) and Michael Schärer (snowboarding, Switzerland), both aged 13, won the final leg of the Quiksilver & Roxy Radar contest held during Winter X Games in Tignes. Each won a year-long contract with Quiksilver and the chance to attend summer camp with the team’s pros.

Held at the X Park, the contest included specially calibrated features (rail, airbag and mini big air) to allow 12 qualifiers – six snowboarders and six skiers – to express their full potential in safety. Finalists performed before Winter X Games spectators and a host of pros, including Hampus Mossesson, Jakob Wilhelmson and rookie skier Thomas Krieff.

Launched at the beginning of winter 2009, Quiksilver & Roxy Radar was designed to uncover future stars in snowboarding and freestyle skiing and potential successors to Candide Thovex, Torah Bright and Mathieu Crépel. A major Internet campaign saw hundreds of boys and girls ages 8 to 13 send in demo clips, with members of the public voting for their favorite athletes during December and January.
