PRIMARK OPENS STORE IN GELSENKIRCHEN

Irish retailer Primark has opened its third store in Germany on Dec. 6. The store in Gelsenkirchen’s Bahnhofstrasse is the first one in Germany that is located in a pedestrian area. The other stores in Bremen and Frankfurt, which have been opened in 2009, are both located in shopping malls. The Gelsenkirchen store is Primark's 215th store in Europe. All stores are own properties of Primark; for the new one in Gelsenkirchen, the company has invested €16.5 million. Two further new openings will follow next year in Essen and Hannover, and 2012 a store in Saarbrücken.

The new store in Gelsenkirchen with over 5,390 sqm and three floors, offers, next to apparel for women, men and kids, also lingerie, shoes and home accessories at low prices. A few hours before the grand opening, people were already waiting in front of the store. Suddenly when opened the doors, the fashion crowd took possession of all three floors and filled the shopping baskets with tons of fashion items. Breege O´ Donoghue, Director of Primark, said: “It is exciting for us to open a new store in Gelsenkirchen. We are convinced that we continue our success story. For further openings, we will not rush, but pay attention to the right location and get knowledge of the market.”

‘Look good, pay less’ is Primark’s motto since it was founded in Dublin in 1969. The retailer that offers fashion at low prices, has grown remarkably over the last years, developed a strong brand image, and had a convincing financial performance. Primark operates stores in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Portugal.
