PLANS FOR FASHION WEEK AT LINCOLN CENTER UNVEILED

IMG, the producer of such events as Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek in New York and FashionWeek SWIM in Miami, announced plans today for the debut of Fashion Week, September 9-16, at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park.

Damrosch Park will offer three runway venues — The Theatre, with 969 seats and a larger backstage area and new upstage video wall; The Stage with modernized stadium seating for 740; and The Studio with 396 seats and a longer and wider runway and raked seating — as well as a fourth presentation space for designer presentations, industry forums, press conferences and other activities, and an outdoor garden. Overall, runway theaters and designer spaces were modified to support more advanced productions, along with expanded lighting and digital design resources.

Beyond the runway, organizers also planned for a more accommodating lobby with free-flowing sponsor areas and expanded services for guests, press and industry professionals. IMG Fashion will also launch a new Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center website and a suite of digital services to provide expanded capabilities for designers, press and attendees. The enhancements will result in up-to-the-minute resources for press registration, press contact details for designers, online RSVP and show check-in capabilities.

On a related note, Fern Mallis, Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, announced her exit from IMG. She is credited with conceiving and establishing New York Fashion Week in the early 1990s and to a great extent the commercial success of American fashion on the world stage. Mallis also played a pivotal role in IMG’s acquisition of the CFDA’s 7th on Sixty division in 2001, at which point she was named Senior Vice President. Mallis leaves IMG to run her own consulting and advisory firm called Fern Mallis LLC and will continue to consult with IMG on its fashion week events and other fashion-related projects.
