PETIT BATEAU X KITSUNÉ

The traditional French underwear company Petit Bateau, founded at the end of the 19th century, has collaborated with Parisian “it” label Kitsuné on a limited edition classic tee.

Founded in 2000, Kitsuné, under the direction of Masaya Kuroki and Gildas Loaëc, is well known in Paris for its fresh, avant-garde musical work. The couple also owns a concept store for music and a fashion brand, which offers classic-looking shirts, trousers and sweaters.

The collaboration with Petit Bateau didn’t seem like a fit at first, particularly with one brand spending years to perfect a shoulder and the other taking a minute to design a fashion item. But as both brands share the same values, the collaboration went well.

The Petit Bateau X Kitsuné T-shirt, while made from a heavy-duty cotton, has been made light in the Petit Bateau vein and is cut for comfort like a second skin. The branding, which contains the two brand logos connected by a knotted nautical rope, is placed to the left side of the garment.

The tee was unveiled on Feb. 20 during a music event in the club La Maroquinerie in Paris and will then be sold exclusively at Colette. It goes into wider distribution across selected Petit Bateau stores and the entire Kitsuné network as of Apr. 28, 2009.
