MUSTANG'S CEO CELEBRATES HIS 60TH YEAR
On April 1, 2008, Heiner Sefranek celebrates his 60th birthday. The Mustang (mustang.de) owner and CEO is a key figure in the world of jeans.
Born in Künzelsau, south Germany, in 1948, Sefranek joined his parents’ company in 1974 and expanded the product portfolio with jackets, tops and shirts, as well as the established denim pants. In 1988, Mustang acquired the license to produce and market denim brand Joop! Jeans and in cooperation with Belgian designer Walter van Beirendonck “W.&L.T” (Wild & Leathal Trash) in 1993. When father Albert Sefranek retired from the group in 1995, he handed over the reins to his son. At the turn of the millennium Heiner Sefranek signed a license agreement with the Willy Bogner fashion house for Bogner Jeans.
Heiner Sefranek recognized that internationalization was key to future business success. He embarked on registering the Mustang brands as trademarks around the world. Furthermore, he pursued vertical integration and global expansion with innovative shop-in-shop and franchise systems. Mustang broadened its focus beyond the European Union to include Eastern Europe, Asia, and the Gulf states. This strategy also saw frequent additions to the range: tops, accessories and the granting of licenses for lifestyle products, such as shoes, belts, leather jackets, bodywear, watches and bags.
Today, Heiner Sefranek is recognized as one of the greats in the jeans industry – a fact evident in the large number of voluntary positions he holds. In his spare time he is an avid fan of arts and music, enjoys a variety of sporting activities, and is a keen traveler – in particular on his motorbike.
