MORE INTERNATIONAL VISITORS AT MILANO UNICA

Milano Unica, the Italian textile fair hosting textile trade shows Moda In, Ideabiella, Ideacomo and Shirt Avenue, held in Milan between Feb. 15-17, 2011, has registered 20,000 visitors, a plus of 2% compared to the February 2010 edition and an increase of 11% of international visitors. The show noticed a marked return of buyers from Europe, lead by Spanish and German professionals, though also numbers increased of buyers from China (+298%), Brazil (+60%), Korea (+43%), Russia (+43%), USA (+23%), Japan and Spain (+13%) and Germany (+10%).

The show, presenting fabric collections for s/s 2012 from a total of 442 top-end Italian and European textile manufacturers, confirmed an economic trend recovery for the textile sector regarding turnover (+11.8%) and export (+11.6%) which already began in 2010.

President Pier Luigi Loro Piana commented: “This edition began on an optimistic note, due to the positive results obtained in 2010. After three intense days of work, the positive atmosphere was accompanied by numerous business contacts and negotiations gained by all our exhibitors. Milano Unica has once again been recognized as a unique moment for marketing available for the quality of the Italian and European textile and accessories sector and to the city of Milan.”

Among the special guests who attended the opening ceremony of the event, there was Luca di Montezemolo, President of Ferrari, who encouraged textile entrepreneurs to keep accelerating globalization, pointing out that Ferrari has an export rate of 90% of its production. "At the moment, we export about 60%, but there is always room for growth on world markets," commented Loro Piana. “In fact, the attention that international buyers have dedicated to us during these days, tell us that this objective may not be a long way off. And a return to turnover levels prior to the economic crisis will be possible only if we reinforce our presence on foreign markets. Thus, Milano Unica has to become the gateway to these markets”.

The next edition featuring f/w 2012/13 collections will take place September 13-15, 2011, at the Portello of Fieramilanocity, a much closer fair location than the far-out Rho-Pero area.
