MILANO UNICA TO SPOTLIGHT YOUNG DESIGNERS

Milano Unica, the collective bi-annual Italian textile show, has announced several new initiatives supporting young designers at its upcoming edition from September 8-10.

On the first day of the show, the second edition of “On Stage” will take place inside Milan’s medieval Castello Sforzesco. Within the prestigious location, 10 upcoming international designers will present their best works made with materials offered by a group of about 40 exhibitors of Milano Unica and in partnership with Woolmark’s Australian Wool Innovation.

“We are proud to continue the experience to offer young talents and textile manufacturers the opportunity to exchange opinions, find new inspiration, and mutual support within the frame of Milano Unica,” said show President Pier Luigi Loro Piana.

“It is also through the relationship with tomorrow’s designers that Made in Italy and European textile designers will be able to constantly evolve and look toward the future with optimism,” added Loro Piana.

Young designers will be available to meet during the show and will be able to sign new agreements and partnerships with textile manufacturers. The young designers working in womenswear include Mary Katrantzou, Sandrina Fasoli, Loris Diran, Elisa Palomino and David Szeto, while designers working in menswear include Laitinen, Giovanni Grillotti, James Long and Carolyn Massey.

There will also be a showcase of 10 young designers from Germany selected by the Wilhelm Lorch Foundation, created by Textil Wirtschaft/Deutscher Fachverlag.
