MARZOTTO ACQUIRES REDAELLIMajor European textile group Gruppo Marzotto has acquired Redaelli, the leading brand in precious velvet production and a favorite among the most important international Haute Couture fashion houses.
The operation involved the purchase of three brands (Redaelli Velluti, Niedieck and Christoph Andreae), their warehouse and historical archive (including studies, designs, prototypes, samples and books dating to the end of 1700), and 100% of the two Sametex production locations based in Kraslice (Czech Republic) and 100% of Girmes (a commercial company based in Nettetal, Germany). The move is part of the Marzotto group's strategy to act as a collecting pole and incubator for Italian textile companies, a process that started in 2008.
"With its highly prestigious brands, Marzotto has occupied a highly significant position on innovation, quality and volumes in the yarn and fabric market for over 175 years. Thanks to these new strategies, it will continue growing while promoting made in Italy products," said a spokesperson for the group.
Redaelli Velluti was founded in 1893 and is a major Italian producer of weft velvets for apparel, interior design, industrial employs and railway and maritime transportation. It was founded by Alfredo Redaelli in Rancio, near Lecco (Northern Italy), and was the first industrial producer of weft velvet. In 1912 a second productive site opened in Mandello del Lario while their prestige as luxury velvet manufacturers grew.
In 2007 Redaelli Velluti began to increase its export activities by buying the German group Girmes GmbH, a well-known international velvet manufacturer offering brands such as Niedieck, an historical German velvet brand founded in 1879. The label was a pioneer in mechanical weaving machines for velvet production in apparel and interiors, as was Christoph Andreae, a most prestigious and ancient velvet manufacturer from 1687.
