MARIMEKKO OPENS TWO STORES IN SWEDEN

Finnish textile and clothing design company Marimekko has announced the opening of two company-owned retail stores in the biggest cities in Sweden, Stockholm and Gothenburg.

In Stockholm, a gallery-type store opened its doors on April 19 in the creative area of SoFo. This store represents a special kind of Marimekko store, just like the newly opened shops in the design district of Helsinki and at the world’s first pop-up mall in London, Boxpark Shoreditch. Every month, the SoFo store will introduce different fascinating facets of Marimekko’s design philosophy by showcasing spearhead products and experimental launches in a gallery-type style and setting. In Gothenburg, the second biggest city in Sweden, Marimekko will open a two-storey store on the corner of the busiest shopping streets on May 12.

“The positive experiences and recent openings in Scandinavia have encouraged us to continue to grow our own store network in Sweden. With these two very special stores, we are excited to further increase our brand awareness – and offer interesting and even surprising new perspectives on it – among the Swedish consumers. Our new store in the style-conscious SoFo area, the creative heart of Stockholm, highlights the distinctive features of our design, constantly providing glimpses of something new and unique. With our glowing colours, bold patterns and strong design appreciation, we will bring a joyful and passionate flavour to the intriguing combination of styles, thoughts and visions of this hip and bohemian neighbourhood. The store gives us an opportunity to start an enriching dialogue with the local tastemaker community. The new store in Gothenburg will be the main meeting place for the friends of Marimekko in the west coast of Sweden. In this second largest Marimekko store in Sweden, our rich colours and design idiom will take the visitor from one inspiring mood to the next, through clothing, bags and accessories, fabrics, tableware and more,” says Sales Director Päivi Lonka.

The address of the new store in Stockholm’s SoFo area, which is part of Södermalm, one of the city’s many islands, is Skånegatan 71. SoFo stands for South of Folkungagatan.

In Gothenburg, the new Marimekko store opens in a charming 19th-century brick building in the city centre at Korsgatan 15 / Vallgatan 26.

In addition, Marimekko has three existing company-owned stores in Sweden: one in the centre of Malmö and two in Stockholm: at Norrmalmstorg and at the Sturegallerian mall.
