Liberty NYC - Third time's a Charm
The third edition of Liberty New York concluded on Tuesday afternoon after a highly successful three-day run. Held for the first time at Pier 94, the event did have one glitch, faulty air conditioning, which made for some uncomfortably warm areas, but otherwise impressed with an inspiring line-up of contemporary and street brands, 100 of which exhibited at the show for the first time. These included Italian sportswear brand Camo, LA-based denim line Crimson Cross, the eponymous collection of Dutch designer Olaf Hussein, Helmut Lang and Canadian footwear and accessories brand Sully Wong.
Liberty owner Sam Ben-Avraham told Sportswear International that he considered the layout and assortment of the show the best he had ever achieved in his long history as a trade show producer and added that he was especially pleased with the brands assembled in Freedom Hall, the section of 22 up-and-coming brands curated by Ouigi Theodore of The Brooklyn Circus and Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh of Art Comes First.
