Iconix acquires Lee Cooper for 72 million dollarsThe global fashion and denim brand Lee Cooper has been acquired by the US brand management company Iconix Brand Group, Inc. for 72 million Dollars in cash. The purchase was executed via the company’s Luxembourg subsidiary, Iconix Luxembourg Sarl. According to Iconix through the takeover of Lee Cooper the foreign share of the company turnover rises up to 33% in 2013.
“Lee Cooper as a business has been in particularly strong health. In light of this success, in 2010 we identified Iconix as a potential future partner for the brand and it is pleasing to see a sale finally come through. We are confident that this change will see Lee Cooper continue to expand globally, and as a result, continue to recruit an even larger loyal following on an international scale”, commented Andy Dunkley, CEO Lee Cooper. According to Lee Cooper there will be “continuing changes as we respond to the continued growth in our brand globally.” South America in particular but also expansion and growth plans in Asia and India are a focus point of the company.
The original British denim brand Lee Cooper was founded in 1908. Today Lee Cooper operates mainly (one stand alone store in Japan) as a pure licenser and has 40 partners selling in over 100 countries, mainly in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, with over 500 Lee Cooper branded stores.
Besides Lee Cooper there are also brands such as Candie’s, Badgley Mischka, Joe Boxer, Fieldcrest, Ed Hardy, Sharper Image, Marc Ecko, Material Girl and Truth or Dare in the Iconix brand portfolio.
