Global Cotton Wool Production Continues To Decline in 2013/14

The International Cotton Council reports that the ICAC (International Cotton Advisory Commitee) awaits a decline of the cotton wool production of 11% (to 23,2 billion tons) for the crop year 2013/14. This is due to low cotton wool prices in relation to the rising cost of agricultural product

Sharp cuts are expected to be made in the US and Turkey, where farmers focus on the cultivation of soybeans and crop, as well as in China, Pakistan, Central Asia and French Africa. Forecasts suggest that a gradual increase in consumption of cotton wool is expected for 1013/14, based on gradual global economic recovery. The ICAC predict an increase of 3% to 24,2 billion tons – most of which will come from South Asia. The global cotton wool trade remains firm with 7,8 billion tons.
