GDS: RETAILERS IN GOOD MOOD FOR ORDERING

Shoe trade fair GDS in Düsseldorf attracted 28,600 visitors from 79 countries (7,000 of whom also attended Global shoes) Sep. 10-12. Exhibitors reported a significant increase in quality and a positive mood amongst buyers. More than one out of two visitors came from abroad and this time more buyers from Benelux, Scandinavia, Great Britain and the Baltic states were registered. In addition, exhibitors also reported a larger proportion of non-European buyers. Retailers were in their best mood for ordering over the past few days, because some exhibitors stated that their stockrooms were already empty so they now need to catch up.

"We are happy with the response," said Sven Simonsen, sales manager Crocs footwear. Also Achim Leidl, Scholl footwear, underlined: "GDS was a very good show for us. We already have 90 percent of orders, but many shops have again new additional orders for summer of 2011." For Marvin Bernstein, Vice President International Sales of Skechers, GDS remains an excellent platform. "The fair was very successful for us." Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GDS, said: "The economic mood is considerably better than even just one year ago."

At this edition of GDS, 780 exhibitors (1,800 collections) presented the key trends for the s/s 2011 order season. Another 410 exhibitors participated in Global Shoes. The next GDS and Global Shoes fair will be held from Mar. 16-18 and from Sep. 7-9, 2011.
