FLIP FLOP STRENGTHENS BRANDDuesseldorf's regional appeal court has banned the Fitflop shoe brand in Germany. It was determined that Fitflop would cause confusion and violate the elder rights of the German brand Flip Flop whose most iconic piece is the thong sandal. The court stated that Flip Flop has not yet become a synonym for this kind of shoe, which is why the protection of the trademark will persist without restriction. The sentence has yet to be enforced by law.
Flip Flop secured its brand rights in 1998. The collection includes shoes, accessories and textiles in a clean and pure style with intense colors. Since 2004, the brand has belonged to the family business Bernd Hummel Holding GmbH, Pirmasens/Germany.
