EUROPEAN OUTDOOR FRIEDRICHSHAFEN: NEW RECORDThe 14th European OutDoor Trade Fair in Friedrichshafen, Germany, closed on Sunday again with an increase in visitors and exhibitors. From July 19 to 22, a total of 16,900 visitors (compared to 15,529 in 2006) and 731 exhibitors (compared to 675 in 2006) – including Nike ACG, The North Face, Timberland and Columbia – came to the show at the Lake Constance. The growth of the fair corresponds to the development of the European outdoor segment in general, which grew its turnover by 2.6 % in 2006, as Rolf G. Schmid, president of the European Outdoor Group (EOG) and CEO Mammut Sports Group, presented in the last survey of the EOG. Lifestyle clothing and clothing for traveling is the fastest growing segment within the outdoor business.
The growth of the fair has produced a new problem: limited space and infrastructure of the Messe Friedrichshafen GmbH and the whole region. Although the Messe Friedrichshafen is hopeing to build up two new halls and new parking areas for the next show (July 17 to 20, 2008), there are ambitious efforts from other German fair-companies to convince the EOG to change the location.
