"Diana Vreeland After Diana Vreeland"
21 Mar. 2012
DIANA VREELAND ON SHOWThe Palazzo Fortuny museum in Venice, Italy is hosting the "Diana Vreeland After Diana Vreeland" exhibition. The show, which opened on March 10 and will last until June 25, is dedicated to the extraordinary and complex personality of Diana Vreeland (Paris, 1903 - New York, 1989). It explores the many sides of her work and seeks to offer a fresh approach with which to interpret the elements of her style and thinking.
The exhibit does not limit itself to the display of garments, although many extraordinary items will be on view. It instead attempts to “short-circuit” time; the artefacts and their auras show how fashion is both a complex phenomenon and the perfect lens through which to interpret the tastes and trends of contemporary society. The aim is to restore a sense of the “magnificent gait” with which Diana Vreeland processed fashion of the 20th century, initially during her years at “Harper’s Bazaar” and “Vogue” and then in her role as Special Consultant for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Visitors will be able to admire clothing drawn from the history of fashion, some of which come to Italy for the first time, including pieces by Yves Saint Laurent and Givenchy worn by Diana Vreeland, which are on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as exceptional articles from the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum and some of the most iconic creations by Saint Laurent from the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent. A variety of prestigious private collections and company archives have also lent out pieces from labels such as Chanel, Schiaparelli, Missoni and Pucci, just to name a few.
The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with Mauro Grifoni and Vicenzaoro by Vicenza Fiera and with the participation of Sistema Moda Veneto and Vente-Privee.
