COIN LAUNCHES DEMOCRATIC WEAR

Coin, the Italian department store retailer, is launching the Democratic Wear Coin project, aimed at selling limited-edition €10 designs by young international designers through its Italian stores.

Kicking off the project on April 9 will be the launch of Democratic Jeans for men and women, designed by the Japanese designer Yuka Morinishi. The jeans will be followed by other items at €10, including a rain jacket (September 2010), a down jacket (November) and a sneaker (February 2011). Each item will sport a red detail (a zipper, button, string) as a distinguishing feature, with Democratic Jeans’ graphic patterns inspired by female and male traditional Japanese symbols such as the kimono and samurai.

Morinishi was born in Kobe, Japan, into a family of tailors from which she developed a keen sense of fashion. “My parents’ tailor’s laboratory has always been my house,” said Morinishi. “Playing with fabrics and mannequins generated my passion for whatever is handmade. I learned and cultivated various passions throughout my lifetime, though Democratic Jeans is a significant achievement in my research.”

Said Francesco Sama, General Manager of Coin: “The Democratic Wear project was conceived with the dual intention to offer our clients exclusive items at a democratic price and continue our path of innovation and research by promoting young creative talents.”
