CAT POWER FOR THE BRAND THAT'S ON A COMEBACK



Ulrich Simpson has joined CAT clothing (cat.com) as head of design. Simpson, who had stints at both Tommy Hilfiger and Pepe Jeans, is taking the brand to its core, workwear roots, and will debut his first collection for the brand for SS09.

This follows a 4-year hiatus for the CAT brand from Europe, when the previous licence holders agreement expired and SRI Inc obtained the worldwide distribution rights to the brand. With a re-focus on the specific style the brand was known for and a keen view of European tastes, it appears CAT clothing is preparing for something of a comeback.

As part of their global expansion, SRI Inc has secured distribution deals across Belgium, France, Italy and Australia. The company has its European headquarters based in the UK, which is headed up by ex-Matalan buyer Michael Hayles.

“We are keen to re-establish CAT in its core markets, both here and abroad and the reaction to the brands return has been very pleasing,” said Hayles. “As one of the most recognised brands in the world, CAT presents a great opportunity and with the new design focus from Ulrich the future looks distinctly yellow!”
