In two weeks Milan’s city center will be one big party for the week for the furniture fair Salone del Mobile, with events and showrooms popping up everywhere. Fashion house Trussardi (trussardi.com) will be presenting The Unexpected Garden, a new outdoor extension on Piazzetta Ferrari which is the result of a collaboration between the architecture studio Carlo Ratti e Associati and botanic artist Patrick Blanc, who have co-designed an all-crystal veranda crowned with a green tapestry of 100sqm.

The vertical garden – or le mur végétal – made by Patrick Blanc, harnesses hydrophonic cultivation to grow plant species on walls without soil. An eco-sustainable idea, the vertical garden optimizes the thermal insulation of the buildings on which it is installed, as well as improving air quality by filtering pollution and generating oxygen.
