ACNE OPENS FLAGSHIP STORE IN TOKYOSwedish fashion house Acne Studios has anounced to open its very first store in Japan in a joint venture (JV) with Japanese fashion company Tomorrowland. The store that will be located in the Aoyama district in Tokyo will open during fall 2012. This opening is announced as first act of a whole retail expansion.
The JV has the ambition to open additional freestanding Acne stores and shop in shops over the years to come. Acne’s Japanese wholesale, PR and e-commerce will continue to be led from Acne Studios Europe.
“We are very excited to open our first store in Tokyo and are delighted to do so in a joint venture with Tomorrowland, who we greatly respect and who we feel in many ways share our mindset when it comes to retail and esthetics”, says Mikael Schiller, Executive Chairman, Acne.
“This is our first joint venture ever and we are pleased to do it with Acne Studios. We have successfully been working with Acne for many years and we see a very promising future for them in Japan", says Hiroyuki Sasaki, CEO and Chairman, Tomorrowland.
Acne Studios was born out of the creative collective Acne, formed in 1996. Aside from creating fashion, the label also publishes the magazine Acne Paper and has recently published its first book – Snowdon Blue. Its womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, shoes and accessories are sold in over 50 countries, its flagship stores are found in Stockholm, New York, London and Paris. Acne Studios has grown from a turnover of 2 million euros in 2003 to over 80 million euros today.
Tomorrowland Co., Ltd. was established in 1978 and is a family business, currently operating over 100 stores in Japan. Sales turnover as of February 2011 was 384 million euros and CEO and Chairman is Mr. Hiroyuki Sasaki. Among Tomorrowland’s shop concepts are Tomorrowland, Land of Tomorrow, Super A Market and Edition, carrying own labels as well as premium brands such as Acne, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin.
