10 Corso Como Opens In Shanghai10 Corso Como will open in Shanghai on 14 September 2013 in the heart of the Jing’an district, a free standing four storey glass building designed by American artist Kris Ruhs.
Located at 1717 Nanjing West Road, Shanghai, the 2,500sqm building is home to a gallery, a bookshop, a restaurant, a café patisserie, and an ongoing series of unique personally curated presentations of design, fashion and art seen through the lens of the 10 Corso Como World.
Founded in 1990 by gallerist and publisher Carla Sozzani, 10 Corso Como is dedicated to art, fashion and design. Exploring 10 Corso Como is an experience for all the senses featuring exhibitions, exclusive collaborations with fashion designers, and a restaurant with a café.
“We are delighted to be bringing the world of 10 Corso Como to Shanghai. Shanghai’s vibrant art and fashion scene is an ideal location for our store. I love the proximity to Jing'an temple and the park. It is a nice balance of modernity and tradition.” Says Carla Sozzani, founder, 10 Corso Como.
Known as the “Champs-Élysées” of Shanghai, West Nanjing stretches for five kilometers through the Jing'an district. The building faces Wheelock Square in Puxi, which is recognized as the historic cultural heart of Shanghai on the west side of the Huang Pu River.
10 Corso Como Shanghai has created an environment that supports the ancient art of feng shui and the flow of qi and positive energy systems throughout. The new store is next door to the Wheelock building, Shanghai’s fourth tallest building, and a short walk from the Jing’an Temple complex, which is dedicated to the Buddha of Peace and Serenity, and home to the paintings and calligraphy of Yangzhou’s Eight Eccentric Painters.
The new store is built as a network of interconnected spaces on four floors. The store’s interior was designed and illustrated by the American artist Kris Ruhs. His playful black and white drawings decorate the space on all four floors, which are flanked with floor to ceiling windows. The space is light and has views of the nearby Jing’an temple, the park, and Shanghai’s constantly evolving skyline.
Central to 10 Corso Como’s DNA is authenticity and style. The store features a carefully curated selection of items ranging from niche brands for the real fashion forward to upcoming proposals. Every month the selection changes; it is like a gallery of clothes. The same attention to detail goes into hand picking design and lifestyle items.
Through exclusive collaborations with designers, frequent pop-ups and art exhibitions, 10 Corso Como is a space that is constantly evolving and creating. “Fashion is a language I enjoy speaking. Listening, watching and understanding the language of fashion tells me a lot about what is going on in the world. It is something to enjoy and explore. For me it inspires and motivates me with ideas on the way to live and what is happening in the world. It is a profound and critical part of our social fabric,” continues Sozzani.
Partnering with Trendy International Group, 10 Corso Como is embarking on its first venture into the world’s second largest luxury market, Greater China. With its first store in Shanghai, 10 Corso Como will bring Chinese consumers skilfully edited choices to inspire and provoke curiosity.
